How to make the most out of your vacation in a foreign country

Knowing how to prepare for a holiday is the first step to returning home feeling rejuvenated and with a suitcase full of good memories. This advice applies everywhere, but especially if you decide to travel to a foreign country, where unexpected events could result in you spending your days of relaxation and freedom with an avoidable dose of stress. Here are some of Candy’s tips and advice!

Before leaving...

  • Make a list of the things that you would like to see or which interest you the most. This way you will not lose time and you will make the most of your available time.
  • If possible, opt for less travelled routes. This means that you can avoid the crowds in more touristy destinations which, as you know, are not very conducive to relaxation.
  • Once you make your list, research the places that you have chosen, for example how to reach them and the most practical order to visit them all.
  • Do not wait until the last minute to book your trip. In addition to saving money that you could spend on holiday days, you will avoid unpleasant surprises like fully-booked hotels and flights.

During the holiday...

  • Get plenty of rest and try to wake up early to enjoy your days to the full. Besides saving time (and therefore being able to do more things), it may be a good way to avoid being on the go during the hottest and muggiest hours.
  • Whether you have decided to stay in a bed and breakfast, a 5-star hotel or a hostel, do not miss the opportunity to take advantage of all the services provided by your accommodation. You have paid for them too, so why not enjoy them?
  • Do not be afraid to immerse yourself in the culture of the country where you are staying. Try new foods, talk to people and experience its characteristic customs. Even if only briefly, become a “local”... This is the only way that you can say that you have really been there!
  • Always be kind and patient. Remember: you are in a foreign country and you cannot expect things to be exactly like what you are used to at home. A calm and easy-going attitude will help you to truly enjoy your stay.
